As for the lack of maintenance and new posts by us on this blog, it seems the comments sections have taken on a life of their own...which is better than we could have hoped for. It may not be the most organized blog around, but we're not going to meddle.
Happy holidays~
"Long Island City had a school we used to call our home, then Bloomberg came and wrecked the place and now we cry and moan. Our students are so miserable, as are the teachers too, so send up all a wailing cry for our once dear Gold and Blue! Cry for the Gold and Blue, our glory days are history. Bryant has been destroyed, the reason why's a mystery. BOO HOO HOO! Bryant, thy Gold and Blue, thy sons and daughters e'er will mourn, and this sad song you'll hear both far and near 'cause we're all so blue!"
ReplyDeleteI'll start with the first post on this new thread. Here's the new Bryant School Song that I wrote while looking down on all of you from Heaven. It's dedicated to Mike Bloomberg, Namita Dwarka, and all those who made their dismemberment of Bryant possible.
Fondly,
Ethel
Hey Ethel, You still got it girl. That is better than roses or lillies. I wish they would take my picture down. I don't want the kids seeing me crying. I'll see you at the saloon.
DeleteTill then.

The union's failure to protect their senior teachers is disgraceful and for the UFT to allow Tweed to practice ageism in the teacher removal process is aiding and abetting the DOE practice of age discrimination.
DeleteThe Special Investigator had reported that Blige had told assistant principals to give teachers “U” (for Unsatisfactory) ratings, which can imperil their careers, on the basis of personal grudges. And yet DOE has done nothing but fine her a measly $7500. It sounds like Dwarka, maybe she should be investigated more. What happened to Westbrook?
DeleteP.S. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Don't worry- I have it on the highest authority that Namita is going to get everything that she deserves! (It may take some time, though!)
ReplyDeleteEthel :)
ReplyDeleteTweed has no clue of what they are doing, sending leadership principals to destroy schools like Ms. Dwarka of W.C. Bryant High School, rating veteran teachers u who are satisfactory, while using the Danielson Model to rate the teachers when the UFT has not agreed to this model. Forcing good assistant principals out the door, this is outrageous.
"When our educational leaders ignore input from the classroom teachers, the programs they push are destined to fail".
ReplyDeleteOur principal is not fit to supervise people, period. She has an extreme micro-management problem and gives excessive orders and nonsense in an attempt to make all teachers act exactly the same way like robots. And she is petty and vindictive to those who don't go along. She came to please Tweed and to destroy careers, also to drive veteran teachers and veteran assostant principals out, and basically to destroy the school.
ReplyDeleteConstantly rude and disrespectful to the hard working staff, she lies and seems to get a sense of power thinking that she is an ultimate leader. And to make matters worse, she even pressures her AP's and coordinators to do the same and treats them as puppets.
We need your input about grade changes, falsifying data, and falsifying observations by lying about what she saw in people's classrooms, like claiming rubrics weren't used when they were, so she could fire this person she saw as a threat to her regime or the way some of you have been harassed. We need proof that your AP was ordered by Ms. Dwarka that you were rated unsatisfactory even though it was a good lesson.
ReplyDeleteThe Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, with its subsequent amendments, provides protection for teachers over the age of 40 against age discrimination. Under this act, age may not be the sole factor when a school district terminates the employment of a teacher. If a teacher charges a school district with age discrimination, the school district has the burden to show that some factor other than age influenced its decision.
ReplyDeleteLeadership Principals like Ms. Dwarka is engaging in tactics of age discrimination because that is what Tweed wants, she was ordering the assistant principals to rate teachers over 40 years old unsatisfactory. How else can you explain that these teachers never got rated unsatisfactory before and most of these assistant principals that were rating them were forced out? During 2012 nine assistant principals have left W.C. Bryant High School. How can our Union negotiate with Tweed? When these teachers were making 30000 dollars they were satisfactory teachers, now that they are make more sll of the sudden and overnight they became unsatisfactory teachers.
ReplyDeleteShe is responsible for turning this place so negative that most of you are depressed. Moving everybody out of their office, destroying departments so there is no communication between teachers. Throwing books out, and all type of stuff in the trash. How much more abuse are you going to take? How many more are going to be pushed out or terminated because of age?
ReplyDeleteWork is so incredibly depressing. The classroom, with students, used to be the most rewarding part of the 8-3. Now it doesn't cut it. Keeping your head down doesn't cut it. Bryant is wearing me down. I am too young for this bull shit. But, is it Namita? Is it Tweed? Somebody have a heart.
ReplyDeleteIt's the beast Namita and her pathetic puppets. Other principals at nearby LIC and Newtown are LOVED by their staff. Their statistics surpassed ours. And what's most important? Their MORALE is high while ours can't be any lower. Everytime you turn a corner someone is whispering about their misery and dissatisfaction with the present leadership. It'll be over sooner or later. But we'll see how many victims this beast claims before she goes.

People this is not about Age-Discrimination this is about have placed someone in a leadership role that had been there before and has an extensive track record of incompetence, unprofessionalism and inappropriateness!!! There is a conflict of interest as she has personal vendettas with people and that just demonstrates her psychosis as some of these people she didn't even know! She truly has deep seeded mental health issues and needs professional help. An important note is that all the people that help to put her there knowing that she had no business in a leadership role are actually more criminal then she is!!! One doesn't allow the insane to run the asylum and unfortunately that is what has occurred at Bryant HS!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidemce all teachers that became unsatisfactory overnight last year were over 40 years old? All the assistant principals that were forced ouy over 40 years old, some of us are not in wonderland. We all know and have evidence that the asisstant principals were forced by the principal to change ratings on observations and chase people out. Everybody knows of this corruption and more, things cannot be hidden anymore.
ReplyDeleteAll of the Assistant Principal's that left weren't over 40 years old andd once again age should not be the area of concentration. Her unprofesional, idiotic, incompetent actions should be the area of concentration.
DeleteWhich one was younger than 40?
DeleteThat's not important and doesn't need to be the focus!!! Focus on what's important!!
DeleteThe National Education Association denounces blatant age discrimination as more and more veteran educators are targeted for negative ratings and dismissal by school superintendents and principals. In many cases, school officials use the guise of “improvement plans” to harass veteran educators without taking into account the countless contributions they have made to public education.

I am furious. We just got an e-mail that we should not review with our students for the midterm exams. They give us the usual mandra, let the students bring the questions and review the last ten minutes of the lesson. Do these administrators know the level of the students we work with? Our students do not know what to ask because they do not know what they do not know. Why don't these useless administrators stay in their offices to deal with their useless paperwork and let us teach? LET US TEACH.These e-mails are only to cover their back for when the Ursoulas of DOE come to our classes and they catch us on review. I can not believe the level of cowardish and insanity. Teachers, ignore them. Do what you think is best for your students. Our responsibility is to them. Take a risk, TEACH.

ReplyDeleteIf you have been subjected to improper treatment at work based on your age, race or sex, contact a civil rights lawyer to learn about your options. Also, always make sure to keep detailed records to document all of the disparate treatment. You have been targeted constantly to receive unstisfactory observations reports while other ofyour colleagues are not being observed at all or you were forced out.
A lot of good experienced veteran teachers are being rated unsatisfactory and others are being chased out with the purpose of hiring out of college teachers who may not be proven effective.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteWe want the discrimination against veteran teachers in schools like W.C. Bryant High School to stop. Veteran teachers are being unfairly rated unsatisfactory when they are doing satisfactory work. The UFT cannot negotiate with the DOE, until the DOE puts a stop to age discrmination. This abuse needs to be stopped.
ReplyDeleteA Budd Lake lawyer has won a $509,000 award for a former Jefferson teacher who claimed she was forced out of her job because of her age.
A Morris County Jury found on Friday, Jan. 6, that Jeanne O’Neill, now 63, of Sparta, was a victim of age discrimination and a hostile work environment. The jury awarded O’Neill $300,000 for emotional distress, $130,000 in back pay and $79,000 in lost wages and benefits.
She was represented by attorney Robert A. Scirocco.
“I thought it was an appropriate amount,” Scirocco said. “She was a phenomenal teacher but the whole experience was very bitter for her. She truly loved her job.”
O’Neill taught chemistry in the district for 22 years, most recently leading advance placement chemistry classes. Scirocco said O’Neill’s students consistently scored higher than the national average for advance placement chemistry and that the teacher had never received a bad review.
But that all changed three years ago.
Retirement Plans
O’Neill had told the district she planned to retire from her $81,000 a year post at the age of 60 at the end of the 2007-08 school year.
But her husband became very ill and had to quit his job. As the now, sole bread winner, O’Neill decided she had to continue working.
After she notified the Jefferson Board of Education of her new plans in January 2008, she allegedly became the target of the administration’s attacks upon her.
The district set up a “corrective action plan” in which they would come into her classroom on a regular basis and criticize her way of teaching, telling her that her methods were antiquated and too traditional, and that she was dramatically regressing within the period of January to May, Scirocco said.
“She told them she finally had enough and would resign at the end of the year, even though she needed to continue to work for the salary and benefits,” Scirocco said.
O’Neill retired in June 2008 and her husband died last year.
During the week-long trial, a former student who recently obtained a doctorate degree in chemistry testified that O’Neill was the best teacher she ever had, Scirocco said.
The district superintendent, principal, curriculum director and chemistry supervisor, all involved in the classroom observations and corrective action plan, all testified for the district.
“They said all their observations and criticisms were legitimate and valid,” Scirocco said.
Scirocco said the case took three years to bring to trial and involved thousands of pages of documents, numerous depositions and review of various records, including assessments of colleagues and of O’Brien.
I am still waiting for a class action lawsuit on age discrimination and /or at least a grievance en mass filed by the UFT on behalf of its members. Is there are "correlation" between U-rated teachers and age? Let's form our own stats: Let's call it the "Dinosaur Group" and see what comes up. When a school is failing its because the "dinasours" are earning too much. But its' okay for a principal to be a"dinasour" and earn a high salary. It's okay that he/she can retire on his her own timetable. For the record: Any teacher that has 10 years or more they want you out! The new "seniority" is 5 years. And the new teachers won't be there long enough to get tenure, they will leave before it. They don't want you to be there long enough to collect a pension or health benefits. In other words "Bloomberg and Baldie" want you to work for free.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. You can cut and paste other people's articles from Gotham Schools! Can you walk and chew gum at the same time?

DeleteSam Lazarus failed us. And our own sniveling traitor "colleagues" failed us. Unless we target the Henrys, the Taras, and the Jackies we won't have a fighting chance. They are very loyal to Trashmita for giving them a turd of recognition. They suffer from inferiority complexes and need Trashmita's party C6 positions to feel comparable to the the rest of the full time teaching staff. Poor souls are emotionally barren/impotent. And were mostly ineffective teachers in the first place. Yes, mental midget Dwarka is to blame (schizophrenia?) but without soldiers she couldn't do so much damage.
DeleteMore than one assistant principal rated teachers unsatisfactory, and I overheard that they were being harassed to do so, fortunately I taped it.
DeleteDon't tell anyone. Just go straight to the press or the local news channels. The UFT is useless and the DOE will just retaliate against you. Search out news outlets that advocate for teachers. The local rags (Daily News, The Post, et al) are in the Mayor's pocket. Good luck!
DeleteUnity, One voice is what's needed to bring this injustice to light, not further destroying each other. Action can take place without Sam, who has not proven his worth.

You mother fucker! What are you doing other than kissing Namita's ass all day long??? Why aren't you organizing meetings? Protests? Writing/Email campaigns? Peaceful rallys? Oh your protectors claim you have no support from your headquarters.... I call bullshit!!! There are many many many staff members ready to fight BUT YOU ARE A BORN LOSER! Now crawl back up Namita's ass with the rest of her puppets.

Hello Georgia, I heard you made a grand stand at the UFT meeting to defend your incompetent boyfriend Sam. HA HA HA HA I wouldn't be caught dead at those useless meetings bitch! Have you any idea how many spies and puppets are now attending just to report back to twatface Dwarker who her enemies are? You're #1 on her hit list she hates your guts and tells her puppets all the time.
ReplyDeleteWhy aren't you such a badass and try calling out Dwarka instead? Right, you are a pussy just like everyone here. Why aren't you ever doing school work? Lesson planning? Grading assessments? Using technology? Where do you find the time and energy to pick the trash? I'm constantly tired from the paperwork and planning so I can avoid getting a U. Doesn't anyone ever observe you or Sam?
I'm up all night doing school work and all day dragging huge bags of shit up and down. You guys seem pretty relaxed to me. I'm running between 3 different rooms on 2 different floors with 3 preps trying to survive. What about you?
Oh that's right. Your Greek godmother Troianos is feeding you blood money now. Per session tutoring, Saturday school, extra classes. You're a sellout just like Sam. The both of you can join Dwarka in hell.
P.S. remove that ugly mole from your rat face. It's disgusting!
You are the kind of socio-psychopath coward, who hides in the corner and watches. You make no noise afraid you could be seen for the pathetic excuse of a human being that you really are. Feeling useless and incompetent, as you certainly are, every day you crawl back to your empty apartment with the big medicine cabinet angry at the world for your failures. This blog finally made you feel strong because you can say what you would never dare otherwise say not even to your therapist. Man up and speak up if you have something to say but for now make sure you take your medicine.

ReplyDeleteWhat a sham she is so desesperate that she will use cordinators to go after veteran teachers. We are still waiting for a SBO to vote for these positions. Maybe these coordinators should get an AP salary since they are performing their duties. Where is the UFT? There is no UFT.

Is pathetically sad that even though Dwarka - the she-devil is one of the dumpest people on the planet she was still smart enough to know exactly the lacking self-esteem and pathetic individuals to select for those ridiculous coordinator positions!!!!! Only really low and self-louthing people that on a job with no extra pay, no real title and no real authority!!!!! Enjoy yourself idiots because there is a hiring freeze on hiring new AP's so if those were your aspirations......too bad......it's not going to happen!!!!!!! Your all mentally challenged!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sham, assistant principals forced to change the rating of the satisfactor veteran teachers observed, and then most of them except one got pushed out. This is outrageous that she can get her way to destroy so many careers.
DeleteWhat you pathetic idiots failed to realize is that she and her clones are not respected by anyone because everyone knows that she and they are incompetent, inappropriate and unprofessional so who is going to give you a recommendation to a another position???? Don't look to your former supervisors because they will not recommend someone that has no integrity!!!! Disgusting.......I hope you are all proud of yourself for being participants in the destruction of children's lives!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have cordinators that have not been voted by an SBO, and acting like assistant principals.
DeleteCoordinators cannot give pre-observations, observations and post-observations. Another violation of the contract. The UFT does not do anything about it....
DeleteThe turaround model consists putting leadership principals in charge to destroy the morale and damage phychologically veteran teachers wiyj the blessing of our Union, so they feel so miserable that they eventually get pushed out or leave. one of the great ideas of our Educational Leaders. In Korea and Finland maybe should copy our model, but wait a minute I think they are smarter than our Educational Leaders.

ReplyDeleteSomeone had an encounter with someone that attended the leadership academy with her and went on to say that she is considered to be a lowlife amongst the Guyense community!!! He was shocked that she was a principal and said that she was in utter and complete moron!!!! He said she's not fit to leader monkey to bananas....how is the community at Bryant high school allowing her to be there????
"Great teachers" can only be great when the school Administration supports their teaching staff not work against them as what is happening in the school I am in now.
ReplyDeleteIf we do not unite 10 veteran teachers are going to lose their jobs, but next year there will be more of the same. You will all be demoralized and the nonsense will continue. Remember she pushed out 8 assistant principals. if she can force assistant principals to change ratings on observations, use them and push them out. What is she going to do to other staff that is in a weaker position? We need to unite or the alternative is much worse, so take a stand with no fear.
ReplyDeleteNow she is using coordinators who are cheaper to do her targeting.
ReplyDeleteI just cannot believe she can do that, replace the assistant principals by coordinators who perform de duties of an assistant principal to go after veteran teachers.
What a sham she is so desesperate that she will use cordinators to go after veteran teachers. We are still waiting for a SBO to vote for these positions. Maybe these coordinators should get an AP salary since they are performing their duties. Where is the UFT? There is no UFT.

ReplyDeleteIn W.C. Bryant High School they love veteran teachers so much that after so many years of hard work they give you Us.
DeleteIt's up to you to call the UFT about these illegal coordinator positions and I don't mean Sam because he's a slithering snake that can't be trusted!!!! There are plenty of other UFT representatives that will defend you!!!! These coordinator positions are illegal folks because they aren't allow to observe you with or without the she devil....these idiots coordinators are your colleagues even if they are do ridiculously confused about that!!!! A Manhattan elementary-school principal ordered his subordinates to fabricate teacher ratings — because he simply neglected to do the reviews in the first place, city documents show.
PS 166 Principal Richard Ronga was canned earlier this year after an independent hearing officer found him guilty of “egregious acts of fraud and deceit,” making him the second principal in three years to be disciplined for fudging teacher reviews.
The ruling was delayed by years because of medical leaves that were granted to Ronga, who also tried to prevent his dismissal by battling the city’s Department of Education in court.
Rob Rich/SocietyAllure.com
Richard Ronga
In January, an independent arbitrator found that Ronga had ordered teachers at the Upper West Side elementary school to conduct as many as a dozen observations of their fellow educators — even though they were not qualified to do so.
Ronga, who was principal for three years, also had them fabricate as many as seven observations that never happened, meaning those teachers were rated, in part, on lessons that they hadn’t actually provided.
“His actions affected not only himself but also his subordinate employees, including those he made part of his deception,” according to arbitrator Patricia Cullen’s written report.
“More importantly, his dishonesty adversely affected the teachers at PS 166, who were deprived of real observations and observations by qualified supervisors.”
Ronga had the ratings fabricated in a panicked response to the superintendent’s having asked him to produce hosts of teacher observations in the spring of 2008 that he hadn’t actually conducted, according to the city’s documents.
Ronga’s lawyer called the educator an “exemplary principal” and said there was more behind his firing than teacher observations.
“From the beginning to the end of his service, a 30-year period, Dr. Ronga never received lower than the highest evaluation on his annual performance reviews,” said the attorney, Stuart Lichten.
“The campaign to remove him as principal began when he refused to give a patronage appointment to the husband of the former superintendent.”
Actually most the Bryant HS staff deserve the idiot awards because all other buildings people united against this kind of incompetence!! It's amazing that all of the self morons and spineless idiots has ultimately lead to the total destruction of Bryant!!!!
ReplyDeleteFrom the comments of the blog: Why the DOE protects abusive principals?
DeleteAdd Namita Dwarka to your list...she had six positions in six years and has two U-Ratings prior to her principals position in William Cullen Bryant HS!! She has illegally changed grades, harassed people and has mismanaged the entire school!!!
Why aren't you doing anything beefore she destroys many more careers?

Just think about it all the coordinators are losers....Papoutis is an insecure lesbian that can't even do higher level math like trigonometry correctly! Papoutis has been more than willing to sell her soul to anyone that offers her anything! She was in on the plan to remove her former supervisor!!!
ReplyDeleteRotondi is another insecure self loathing individual willing to disrespect himself in order to get ahead because he's such a meatball that he knows he won't get head otherwise!!! Its perfect because he is stupid that he hasn't figure out that this is the nail in the coffin for him!! What can be said about someone that moved into his former supervisors office the day after he left....after he was their third choice for the coordinators position! The same people that offered him the coordinators position are the same people that took the senior advisor position the prior year!!! Pathetic!!!
Frankson is another none accepting of herself and all of her issues! Frankson spent all year conspiring, plotting, being in on meeting, and not sharing it with her colleagues! Please note: Frankson how could you be an quasi effective supervisor when you aren't even a good counselor!! Maybe you would have a fighting chance if you learned to relate to people..which FYI is an essential component to be an effective educator!!! We are not in the military..you know where the policy is don't ask don't tell! You don't have to tell because we already know!
Skordas.....you thought because you Tanalski were both racist that this was going to work out for you! You know that Tanalski is selfish and would only do something that benefits him! Now your colleagues get to see you for the weasel you really are!
Morales....you weren't good enough for her to give you a recommendation after how you worked in the summer but you're definitely good enough her to run you ragged! If you had difficulty getting an AP before what do you think is going to occur after this house crumbles!!! Have some dignity!
Jackie....what were people expecting of her after how she plotted and schemed last year behind Ms. Troll's back! Lets not forget that Jackie is the same person that allowed that devil to fire her husband and still went along with the plan!! She's a hippo and she's knows that she will never get the opportunity otherwise since she's so gross!
Good Luck all you idiots because haven't you figured out all your days are numbered!!!
What about LDR??
DeleteNot worth mentioning she is as incompetent as Dwarka!!!!!
DeleteOne of the teachers who is a coordinator had 14 percent passing in the regents. What a joke?
DeleteThere is no leadership in this school, there is nonsense and bad diagnosis and just going after good veteran hard working teachers and pushing professionals out the system.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely the word leadership is a laughable word to use for Bryant HS is a joke to everyone
ReplyDeleteWe should oppose her on everyting until she treats as human beings.

ReplyDeleteAge Discrimination & Harassment
ReplyDeleteIt is unlawful to harass a person because of his or her age.
Harassment can include, for example, offensive remarks about a person's age. Although the law doesn't prohibit simple teasing, offhand comments, or isolated incidents that aren't very serious, harassment is illegal when it is so frequent or severe that it creates a hostile or offensive work environment or when it results in an adverse employment decision (such as the victim being fired or demoted).
The harasser can be the victim's supervisor, a supervisor in another area, a co-worker, or someone who is not an employee of the employer, such as a client or customer.
If you are denied pre-observations, and they keep observing you constantly while your colleagues are not, and they keep showing you the Danielson Model when is not in effect, you are being discriminated if you are over 40 and you can file a lawsuit. If they are making demands on you and not on your colleagues, Contact #3456
ReplyDeleteI am not a teacher nor do I work for the Dept. of Education but I have family and friends who are tenured teachers and I hear this type of behavior from principals on a daily basis. One particular school in Coney Island has a principal to blatantly violates chancellors rules and yet if a teacher speaks up they become the principals target. The principal has been heard of saying, and I quote “We have ways of dealing with teachers we don’t like”, and that couldn’t be more true. Teachers who have received nothing but S’s on their rating year after year all of a sudden start getting U’s. Letters in their file for nonsense, being made to follow rules that appear not to be enforced for others. In one situation the principal has been heard coercing students into writing false statements. The HARASSMENT in unbearable and it forces teacher to retire early and or leave, if their record hasn’t been tarnished too much. Principals are given way too much power. They become the judge, jury and executioner, teachers have no chance. These are careers we’re talking about; you can’t give principals the authority to destroy someone’s life… Teacher have to unite.. Class Action Law Suit anyone????
This principal came to destroy Bryant, destroy careers and demoralized everybody.
ReplyDeleteThe UFT is not saying anything about all the investigations that went on, I know we suppose to get a job description from the teachers who are acting as coordinators and writing observations. According to the UFT they cannot assume a supervisory role when they are teachers. But we all know she has become desesperate in rating veteran teachers unsatisfactory so Tweed will like her.
ReplyDeleteOne of the good teachers was told recently, you are not fit to teach. but we al know somebody who is not fit to be a principal.
ReplyDeleteShe is not fit to a human being!!! She's absolutely an embarrassment!!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://insideschools.org/high/browse/school/1261
ReplyDeleteWanted to share this, specifically because it says 47% of teachers think the principal is an effective manager. 75% is the average and 47% is generous as Dwarka is an incompetent ego maniac who should get a gold medal in most teachers and APs pushed away from her school, as well as most students let down. She insults people because she knows she's a moron and, as a psychopath, gets off on humiliating others. She should be the head patient in a psych ward, NOT put in charge of children and professionals.
That 47 percent is down to 15 percent
DeleteShe is doing all this because the system is corrupt from top to bottom.
DeleteWhat a joke that we have become? We had a good staff and we have left one person destroy us. I guess we deserve it for not fighting back.

ReplyDeleteHere is the hitch: Principals in NYC always have had the freedom to "use" any type of "evaluation" system that they choose when they perform an official observation. However, they must still rate a teacher either S or U regardless of what "evaluation" system they choose In simple terms, most old school, regular, principals who have years of teaching experience will simply observe a teacher and give guided feedback to the teacher that they observed. The problem is that many Leadership Academy principals and DOE cronie principals are "using" the Danielson Framework to nit pick minor details as a way to get rid of veteran teachers. The sad reality is that there is really nothing much that the UFT or a teacher can do or say to question what evaluation "system" a principal uses. It is up to the principal to decide how to evaluate a teacher but that principal MUST still use the S or U system until a new evaluation system goes into effect and then teachers will be rated either ineffective, developing, effective, or highly effective. It sounds like semantics but at the end of the day, principals have always had the power to rate teachers as they please and ya' can't grieve a U rating in this day and age. My suggestion is to do your best to transfer to a school with an old school principal who has a mind of his or her own. (Even though we all know that the open market transfer system is a joke)
But the Danielson Model does not take into effect until next year, so any observation written should not be valid. Where is the UFT?
DeleteNew York’s Teachers’ Rights 3020-a Hearing Attorneys
ReplyDeleteUnder state and federal law, teachers have certain rights, especially in regard to disciplinary proceedings that involve allegations of wrongdoing, incompetence, or poor performance in the classroom. In New York, the terms and conditions of a teacher’s employment are generally determined by state law. As a result, there are specific procedures that must be followed regarding the hiring, firing, and evaluation of teachers. Teachers who are tenured are also granted specific procedural rights and protections that stem from due process clauses within the law as well as their collective bargaining agreements.
When disciplinary matters arise, Districts must proceed according to the requirements laid out in New York Education Law §3020-a. Unfortunately, 3020-a hearings have frequently been used by Districts as a “paper trail” mechanism designed to conceal discrimination on the part of school districts that simply want to fire a teacher for unlawful reasons.
If you’re a teacher and have been the target of harassment and discrimination, it’s important to understand what your legal rights and options are prior to a 3020-a hearing. To protect your interests and learn how we can help you, contact teachers’ rights attorneys at Leeds Brown Law P.C. today.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (CBSNewYork) — Some local students heading back to Queens from St. Louis were injured early Sunday when their charter bus crashed in Columbus, Ohio.
The 16 students and three adult supervisors were from the William Cullen Bryant High School, at 48-10 31st Ave. in Queens. They were returning from a robotics competition in St. Louis when their bus tipped over a ramp around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, CBS 2 reported.
The bus rolled onto its side as it was exiting from Interstate 70 eastbound to I-270 northbound in Columbus, according to CBS affiliate WBNS-TV, Columbus.
Altogether, 15 children and four adults were taken to area hospitals, with what police said were minor injuries, WBNS-TV reported.
Another bus later came, and eventually, the whole group was put on a different charter bus for the rest of the trip home.
Following the accident, a representative of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration told WBNS the Maryland-based company operating the charter bus had not responded to three recent letters requesting a compliance audit.
The company, which was believed to have been operating the bus under the name Platinum Magic Carpet Ride LLC, had been issued a warning by the State of Maryland about a potential license revocation within 10 days, WBNS reported. Plans were under way for a mandatory inspection prior to the crash, the station reported.
The cause of the accident remained under investigation late Sunday
Why did the principal hire this bus company?
DeleteHer leadership skills are admirable, she can make everybody in the building mesirable.
ReplyDeleteShe has as much leadership as a slug!!! They don't go anywhere either!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo many people should be ashamed of themselves for participating in hurting children and destroying a school!!!! Dwarka you are an idiot and nothing that you do will ever change that!!!!
ReplyDeleteShe does not deserve the staff or position that she has. She should be out of this building.
ReplyDeleteThe Relentless Quest for Excellence is not about passing student who do not deserve it. it is not about harassing teachers or rating veteran teachers unsatisfactory because they have become too expensive, nor is about changing grades or harassing assistant principals to change observation ratings on veteran teachers. It is not about impressing Tweed by using APAX as a credit recovery program so students who were not taught to put effort in the classes can pass with a few clicks, so Tweed can be happy. It is about creating a system where students learn and are prepared for today's world and that can only be done when you have a leader in charge of the school, not when you have an insecure principal who feels intimidated and goes after people that may help her to build a better school. Only leaders can create a good school, and inspire students to learn. Unfortunately with this principal's regime that is nit where we are headed.
ReplyDeleteSeven investigations and she is still going on with nonsense, and pushing people out who may oppose her.
ReplyDeleteYou all have done a good job despite having a principal that keeps working against you. But if you do not fight back she will continue to abuse you.
ReplyDeleteGood Bye
She is so desperate to abuse and mistreat everyone of you, but specially veteran teachers.
ReplyDeleteShe is going to run the place to the ground after destroying the careers of good hard working people, and making everybody miserable. The teacher that won the Robotics Competition had to leave because she was harassed and humiliated.
ReplyDeleteThere is only one person that needs to go and we all know who she is, the longer she stays the more demoralized we will be.
ReplyDeleteWe have treachers running the show as APs, where is the UFT?
ReplyDeleteRetaliation Against P.A President Gus Prentzas For Defending our Children – He Believes Education is a right not a privilege. Another victim of Dwarka, when is she going to realize that she is a major problem for this school.
ReplyDeleteGus is not "victim" he is the voice of the parents and kids .
ReplyDeleteThen it is time to put an end to this incompetent principal, who has ruined this school and has rated unsatisfactory and intimidated good veteran teachers who did their best, and has pushed away 9 assistant principals. How long are we going to take all this nonsense?
DeleteThis principal is unable to work with anybody, she is just making everybody miserable/ how can you get rid of 9 good assistant principals and put teachers in charge? how is that legal? How can she just target and harass veteran teachers while other teachers do not get observed? We have been put through a lot of nonsense the last 2 years and it is time to put an end to this nonsense.

ReplyDeleteTo all WCBHS teachers:
ReplyDeleteWe have never posted on this website/blog but feel that the time has come for those of us who have been in the silent majority to finally speak up.
If we stop fighting over the ball, screaming at the ref, and making dirty plays, we can focus on passing, communicating, trusting one another, moving up and down the field together and scoring. We have enough teachers who are willing to play a good clean game, and we have the talent, experience and intelligence to get the ball to other side of the field, and eventually score. It is very difficult to play fair when the other team doesn't, but if we don't play fair, then whatever goals we make will not count in the long run.
We wrote this post because we want our team to WIN!
We have brilliant and hard-working teachers at our school. Yes, we have lost many excellent teachers in the last 2 years, but we still have a core group from the old days that are alive and kicking, as well as wonderful new teachers who deserve our support and praise. It's time to put aside personal differences. Forgiving isn't the same as forgetting, but sometimes it is what we must do so that we can all move forward... TOGETHER.
Please do not post anything on the new website/blog that surfaced recently, www.bryanthighschoolmadness.com. While it is clear that those who created the site did so in order to help us achieve our common goal, we do not agree with their decision to launch personal attacks on WCBHS employees. There is enough factual information available to make a good case, and we are professional and intelligent enough to present those details in a more educated manner.
Join those who are getting back into shape with “Insanity” workouts, and follow our own WCBHS Insanity workout to bring sanity back into our workplace. Take 10 minutes out of your day, everyday, to accomplish one of the following seven tasks to be included in the next post (This one exceeds the maximum amount).
Do not forget that we were once an AMAZING team. We were once a FAMILY. Choose to FORGIVE past personal attacks and maintain PROFESSIONALISM at all times. Focus on the one goal WE ALL SHARE. If we stay UNIFIED in the weeks ahead, and focus on playing a good offensive game TOGETHER, then we will be UNSTOPPABLE.
Choose to unify. Choose to forgive. Choose to move forward. CHOOSE VICTORY!!
Yours Truly,
Bryant Teachers Who Still Have Hope
P.s. Please respond with supportive comments. Many are willing to forgive and move forward, but if you write something awful after many of us have pledged to work together, you are going to ruin the wonderful momentum that we have come together to create. Even if we don’t agree on all the details, we do agree that it’s time to put students’ interests first, and we agree that we are not going to sell each other out in order to achieve that goal. The time has come. The time is now. BRYANT FOR VICTORY, DEFEAT N'ER COME TO YOU, RAH! RAH! RAH!
Interesting how you wrote this. I read Bryantmadness and immediately stopped once I saw the attacks. It became a place of stupidity once again. I noticed it was done more professional and it might of gone somewhere. But not anymore. These people are really sick. I wish you well in trying to defeat the Principal but choose who you want on your side wisely. They will make "you" look crazy. Bryantmadness was on the right page until people began with the immaturity and sickness. I wish you luck.
Deletefrom what i have been reading on Bryanthighschoolmadness.com the blogger has been on point . i dont see personal attacks but what is actually happning at bryant. It was that blog that finally got the DOE to pay attention to Bryant .
DeleteIt is a good thing that many of the personal attacks have been removed from that website. I personally would like to see all profanity removed because it makes everyone look vindictive & unprofessional, but there's no question that people on the outside are starting to pay attention, and that's a good thing. I hope that Bryant Teachers Who Still Have Hope are continuing to write letters/testimonies, and encouraging others to do the same. I like the Insanity Workout a lot. It's an interesting coincidence that Smart Goal #1 was posted on 10/14, and the Community Superintendent to whom the letters were addressed visited WCBHS on 10/22. Let's make Smart Goal #2 to reach out to Public Advocate Bill de Blasio at GetHelp@pubadvocate.nyc.gov . Can we get him to come visit too, or at least send an independent commission to investigate what is going on? Hopefully everyone who participated in the first round of letters/testimonies will participate again. Whoever has the facts about the former A.P.'s names being listed on the current WCBHS budget needs to share details with elected officials outside the DOE. Why is the DOE reimbursing our school for those salaries? Why are their names still on our budget when they are no longer employed at our school? If we keep writing letters to the right people, and encouraging our colleagues, parents & students to do the same, we can win this.
Delete<>
DeleteI agree.
That last comment was me. The cut/paste didn't work. Anyway, I agree that it was the blog that finally got the DOE to start paying attention to Bryant. Over 10,000 hits in 2 weeks. Wow...
DeleteThe WCBHS Insanity Workout (10 minutes daily):
ReplyDelete1) Call or email the Community Superintendent, Mrs. Tamika Matheson, with your own anonymous testimony: (718) 968-4101 x 1044 or TMathes@schools.nyc.gov. Ms. Matheson is the Superintendent for Brooklyn & Queens High Schools in districts 15, 22, 23, 27, 30 and 32. Her office is located at 6565 Flatlands Avenue, Room 104, Brooklyn, NY 11236. She is one of 9 Superintendents for NYC Public Schools. Note: All superintendents perform statutory duties for each school, including appointing principals in district schools, acting as rating officer for principals in the district, approving teacher tenure decisions, and approving school budgets. They also support communities by communicating with Parents Associations, liaising with Community Education Councils (CECs) and the Citywide Council of High Schools (CCHS), and supervising District and Borough Family Advocates.
2) Ask the people who set up this “Bryant High School Inside Scoop” blog to delete all the entries except for this one, and start a new post with this entry. Less than 5% of the faculty & staff contributed 95% of the information for everything up until now, and the website is an embarrassment to all of us. It’s time for the majority to step up and keep the posts & comments professional and focused.
3) Hold our elected leaders accountable to the needs of our students. Contact District 30 City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley at ecrowley@council.nyc.gov or 718-366-3900; NYC’s Public Advocate Bill de Blasio at GetHelp@pubadvocate.nyc.gov or (212) 669-7250; and District 26 City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer at jvanbramer@council.nyc.gov or (718) 383-9566. (Mr.Van Bramer is a WCBHS alumni.)
4) Contact our District 30 Borough Family Advocate Selena South at 718-642-5733. She works in the office of the Community Superintendent. Note: There are 32 District Family Advocates who support the families and communities of the elementary and middle schools in their district(s) across the boroughs, and 6 Borough Family Advocates who support the families and communities of high schools and secondary schools.
5) Contact the WCBHS Parents’ Association President Gus Prentzas at gusprentzas@aol.com.
6) Contact the UFT, and log a complaint at (718) 830-5600. Talk to your UFT Chapter Leader and find out if you are in the position to file a grievance. If you are eligible, take time to complete the paperwork and file it.
7) Edit your own testimony by finding out more details about why former colleagues left our school. Either add their details to your testimony, or encourage them to write their own. Of course it is understandable if you would like to keep your testimony anonymous, but the testimonies with the authors’ names attached carry much more weight.
Leave out ALL names. Include dates, quotes, position titles, and specific details. And remember that we need to play on the same team if we’re going to win.
Good Luck. Finally some intelligence. The principal only laughs with put downs and we look bitter. Which is the reason why she continues doing what she does. When it comes to taking soemone down you need to play smart. It sounds like you got it.
DeleteThe actual Insanity workout is an intense 60-day experience. It may be fun and cathartic to have all interested participants doing the same “SMART workout” for the next 60 days.
ReplyDeleteDay 1 SMART goal: Send a letter to the Community Superintendent, Ms. Tamika Matheson on 10/16.
SPECIFIC: Each letter should include a minimum of 5 administrative decisions that are not in students’ best interests, and of these five, 3 should be common themes such as U ratings to veteran teachers, illegal comp-time positions despite vacancies a month into the school year and C-6 violations.
MEASURABLE: If you do this, respond with “I did it” so we can collect data on the number of people who follow through.
ACHIEVABLE: Those with better writing skills and contacts should “challenge themselves” to include more facts about teachers who have left the school. Those who struggle with keeping their writing objective should focus on the 3 decisions listed above.
RELEVANT: All facts included in your statement should focus on how this administration is making decisions that are NOT in the students’ best interests. Examples include (a) no textbooks for entire departments; (b) programs containing 4 or more Regents classes given to teachers who requested the opposite due to child-care leaves; (c) lack of a nationally-recognized robotics program and other specialized programs from the last 2 school years—teachers who created these programs were pressured to leave Bryant rather than acknowledged & appreciated for what they contributed to the school; (d) lack of available tutoring for students due to the notion that more time spent refining lesson plans would lead to less time students need to spend getting tutored, etc.
TIMELY: The email or phone call must happen on Wednesday October 16, 2013, in order to be most effective. This gives people reading this blog 2 days to contact others who would like to participate in Smart Goal #1.
Your thoughts??
Great SMART goal! Count me in!
ReplyDeleteDear Bryant Teachers Who Still Have Hope, Thank you for giving me hope and making me feel like part of a true community again! I will help to spread the message that this site is starting to make a comeback.
Dear Bryant Teachers Who Tried to Get Us All to Unite Earlier, I was too busy trying to “ride out the storm.” I’m listening now.
Dear People Who Have Posted Hurtful Comments Online, I beg you to stop. If the facts are not presented in a more objective and professional style and sent to the right people, then they will never be taken seriously by those who could be instrumental in helping us to achieve our goal. The personal attacks drive away leaders on both the inside & outside, and attract only those individuals who enjoy dividing & embarrassing us. We can only win if we are united!

She has a strong guardian angel somewhere in the ranks and until DiBlasio cleans house, nothing will change. However, there is a part of me that thinks it is really gutsy and optimistic of you to try and unite everyone… I don’t think it’s possible to call attention to our situation using legitimate channels, but I would LOVE to see it happen. If you continue to post a Goal of the day for the next 60 days, you can count on me to follow through, but if she’s still around before we leave for the holidays, I give up.
ReplyDeleteMs. Dwarka has ordered assistant principals to rate veteran teachers unsatisfactory that she does not like. Most of these assistant principals got pushed out anyway and replaced by teachers without any opposition from the UFT. She has changed grades and pressure teachers to pass students who do not deserve it. She has used the Danielson model to go after veteran teachers even though it was not in effect. She has harassed and humiliated a math teacher that have won a Robotic competition because she failed as a principal to see if the bus company involved in the accident was safe. What a shameful woman!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteW.C. Bryant High School was a good school to work until Ms. Dwarka became principal. Now the only thing the administration does is go after veteran teachers, chase out teachers and intimidate them. How can demoralizing and putting down professionals with a good track record be beneficial for this school? That is their idea of turnaround make these leadership principals so powerful that students that do not deserve to pass will pass. and everybody will feel miserable to go to work under that kind of principals
What a sham the grading policy! They come up with such policy the same day the marking period ends. another relentless quest for incompetence.
ReplyDeleteHer entire "cabinet" of puppets are creeps and idiots. And Dwarka is the Queen of Stupidity and Incompetence.
ReplyDeleteHow can she push out 9 assistant principals and them go after hard working veteran teachers who have proven that they can get good results?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: The letter-writing campaign has begun. Students and parents are participating too. Keep writing, and keep it professional. We can win this.
DeleteThank you Diane Martone and Kim Harbin for having the GUTS to refuse to participate in the biggest TimeWaster exercise of Dwarkakian Stupidity known as Instructional Rounds. Every teacher on that list should have been explicitly advised by our RAT of a chapter "leader" to JUST SAY NO. Instead, Sam sends an email at 8pm after the fact. You fucking moron! What good does that do? But that's typical Sam Lazarus: a day late and a dollar short.
ReplyDeleteGood job Kim and Diane!
The best part of Dwarka's imminent removal will be watching all her pussy-licking puppets going back to teaching their 5 periods.
What an EPIC day that will be!

ReplyDeleteTo whom it may concern,
ReplyDeleteRecently, the news concerning the “The Scholar’s Academy” of William Cullen Bryant High School didn’t shock me at all. The actions and behavior of the current principal Ms. NamitaDwarka that I have seen as a student foreshadowed something as dreadful as this. As students, none of us ever had the courage to open up about how we really felt about her administration. The few that did had to enjoy the taste of detention in a room with no windows in the basement next to the women’s restroom…and that was because the students’ thoughts about her were publicly announced. Doesn’t that violate our first amendment? I wouldn’t think so; not just I, most of the students wouldn’t think so. Why would we? Why would we think of our rights at an educational organization where nobody cared about any ones opinions? As I would walk down the hallways, I would hear kids calling our beloved principal a “dictator” or a “sociopath” or a “fascist.” To be honest, I thought that was extremely disrespectful. Someone should never call others such things. “Treat others the way you want to be treated,” my global history teacher taught me this when I was a sophomore. Even though it was a little too much of the students, but after months of having her as a principal, when the kids say that to her, I’d leave it up to you to decide who was treating who wrong.
As a concerned alumnus, I would want a stop to this. And by “this,” I mean the torture that literally every single person in that building has to go through every day of their lives. Yes, I am extremely angry that Principal Namita Dwarka terminated teachers that have changed my life and that she had made senior year a nothing more than anguish, but that’s not it. I want the current students of Bryant have the same fun and educational experience that I had during my first three years there.
Sincerely,
A Bryant Alumni.
Did Smart Goal #1 work? Definitely. The Superintendent all the letters were addressed to visited our school within a week. Coincidence or not, that’s a great step forward. Since no one posted a SMART goal #2, how’s this one?
ReplyDeleteSMART Goal #2: Send a letter to the Public Advocate, Bill de Blasio, on or before 10/25, at GetHelp@pubadvocate.nyc.gov, highlighting the many reasons why the current administration is making decisions that are not in the best interests of students.
SPECIFIC: Each letter should include “directives” that are specific to the current administration.
MEASURABLE: If the Public Advocate or someone on his staff shows up, then we know it worked, lol.
ACHIEVABLE: If people have time to read & post comments online, they can definitely make time to write an email and push send.
RELEVANT: All facts should give evidence of what Bryant once had but LOST after the new administration came into power. Examples include, but are certainly not limited to:
(a) No textbooks for English teachers = lack of reading materials for our students;
(b) Lack of a nationally-recognized robotics program years (due to the sponsor teacher being pressured to leave Bryant) = lack of enrichment opportunities for students;
(c) A.P.’s/Coordinators with LOW passing rates & NO experience teaching honors classes or higher-level classes telling other teachers how to teach = students who are going to be unprepared for the rigor of college because they spent too much time being forced to “discover” higher-level concepts and less time getting the skills & instruction they needed to be successful;
(d) A.P.’s/Coordinators who do not support teachers tutoring their own students = fewer opportunities for students to meet with their teachers outside of class and 1) develop a better understanding of the subject material, and 2) get to know the teacher as a human being—this generally helps both parties to work better together and adjust to one another’s learning & teaching styles;
(e) No tutoring permitted before 1st period = lack of extra help for our Calculus AB & BC students and other college bound students;
(f) Lack of 1st period tutoring = lack of extra help for freshmen (on a 2-9 schedule) who are struggling with the transition from middle school to high school;
(g) Lack of time for teachers in the same content area to meet with one another = uneven instruction for students since teachers who are teaching a class for the first time have no opportunities to meet with colleagues teaching the same subject, and no time to talk to colleagues teaching the next level up;
(h) Lack of 3 yearly theatrical productions, including a spring teacher musical (due to the drama teacher being illegally excessed) = fewer opportunities for students and teachers to develop an appreciation for all the hard work it takes to put on a live production (with live music!) and also fewer opportunities to laugh and smile and ENJOY BEING TOGETHER!
There are too many details to list in one letters, which is why we need as many colleagues as possible to WRITE!
TIMELY: The email or phone call must happen on or before Friday October 25, 2013, in order to be most effective. This gives people reading this blog 2 days to contact others who would like to participate in Smart Goal #2.
Your thoughts??
p.s. I hope someone will write a letter about the budget. I don't know enough to do it myself. If the A.P's names are on it, but they're not actually working at Bryant, our elected officials need to be made aware of this "arrangement". The Guardian Angel protecting our Principal can only do so much.
A third grievance filed by the UFT is about principals who are requiring teachers to submit “written goals” for their professional growth in the classroom. The exchange takes place during an “initial pre-conference” meeting, which is where teachers decided what kind of observations they want. (King created two options.)
ReplyDeleteThe department has warned principals not to request written goals unless their schools had opted into formal goal-setting as part of the evaluation process, raising questions about whether the department is intentionally allowing abuses to take place or whether the union is observing variation in implementation across the city.
A letter was sent to NY City Councilmember Elizabeth Crowley (Bryant’s District 30), NY City Councilmember Jimmy van Bramer (Bryant alumnus) and Public Advocate Bill de Blasio. We also sent a letter to NYS Assemblywoman Margaret Markey (Bryant’s District 30), NYS Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas (Bryant alumnus) and NYS Senator Michael Gianaris for Distict 12 (Bryant’s NYS senate district). The first 3 emails are listed in a previous post. The next 3 are MarkeyM@assembly.state.ny.us, Simotasa@assembly.state.ny.us, and gianaris@nysenate.gov . This is the time for our faculty to unite and move forward! Get your department to write a letter and send it asap! We can win this!!
ReplyDeleteMs. Dwarka has rated veteran teachers unsatisfactory in order to win her sympathy from Tweed, she is pushing veteran teachers out and has pushed good assistant principals out. It is called engaging in age discrimination, when you constantly target the veteran teachers and hire inexperienced teachers while there are experienced ATRS with no positions. An investigation is on the way, we will not stop until all the corruption of the last 2 years is out. How come all these veteran teachers worked for many years under different supervisors and were never rated unsatisfactory?
ReplyDeleteWe open our arms to her, just to find out that she came to clean house with her gotcha philosophy, her relentless quest to destroy careers of people who had worked hard during many years and have good results. It is time to unite all of you who got pushed out, harassed, intimidated .... Enough is enough.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how to contact Sherry Seidman? She definitely has loads of evidence of illegal and criminal activity.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteThis principal has violated the Age Discrimination in Employment Act– on behalf of its members over 40 years of age, who have been harmed by the DOE's discriminatory use of the disciplinary system, through the issuance of Unsatisfactory annual performance ratings to such teachers, as well as the DOE's discriminatory pattern and practice of coercing, threatening, and harassing teachers over 40 years of age to “encourage” those teachers to leave their assigned schools under the turnaround model. Also she has harassed assistant principals to rate veteran teachers unsatisfactory who did not deserve it.
A social studies teacher was removed from the classroom today, it is time for class action lawsuit.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteThe Age Discrimination Act of 1975 prohibits discrimination based on age in programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. The U.S. Department of Education gives financial assistance to schools and colleges. The Age Discrimination regulation describes conduct that violates the Act. The Age Discrimination regulation is enforced by the Office for Civil Rights and is in the Code of Federal Regulations at 34 CFR Part 110.
The Age Discrimination Act of 1975 does not cover employment discrimination. Complaints of employment discrimination based on age may be filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
The regulations under the Age Discrimination Act, however, allow you to file a claim in Federal court under that law only after (1) 180 days have passed since you file your complaint with OCR and OCR has made no finding, or (2) OCR issues a finding in favor of the recipient. In the latter case, OCR will promptly notify you and remind you of your right to file in court.
The Age Discrimination Act of 1975 prohibits retaliation for filing a complaint with OCR or for advocating for a right protected by the Act.
Tweed and this horrible principal have destroyed a good school and the morale of W. C. Bryant High School. Next year expect more intimidation and more tactics of fear. In our hearts this school will always be W.C. Bryant High School. Many good professionals got chased out, rated unsatisfactory, very good dedicated professionals and you will never be forgotten. They have won the first battle but not the war.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Sam Lazarus doing?
ReplyDeleteHow many classes are being covered by subs and rotating ATRs that she has the luxury of removing anyone?
She has turned what was once a good school into a nuthouse!
The UFT does not want to do anything, age discrimination consisting in rating unsatisfactoy and harassing veteran teachers is widely accepted. If you look of all ATRs there are all middle age, and the teachers that get reassigned are also middle age. The median age of the staff of W.C. Bryant High School probably went down 15 years between 2011 and 2013. All the APs that were pushed out were veteran teachers. The UFT knows about it and doesn't do anything.
ReplyDeleteA true leader inspire and does not intimate veteran teachers to pass students, a true leader does not push our good assistant principals or rate teachers with good results unsatisfactory or harasses teachers, and doesn't change grades or come up with a watered down grading policy where tests only count for 40 percent. A true leader does not come up with fraudulent credit recovery programs. You have brought shame to our school and your time is up.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteThe coordinators are still conducting observations. The UFT suppose to take care of this. Why is the chapter leader not doing his job? We did not vote for these positions and they are comp times. She had excellent assistant principals, why is the UFT collaborating with her
One by one and of the veterans are getting pushed out, today the students of a social studies class had another substitute teacher because our principal has removed their social studies teacher who she had made a target for the last 2 years. The students are not learning nothing but she is getting rid of the experienced teachers so she can make TWEED and the network happy. What a waste! Let' s stop this nonsense with a lawsuit so she can learn that age discrimination is not acceptable.
ReplyDeleteThese coordinators should get paid to do an assistant principal's job. It does not make sense if they are occupying their offices, writing observations and observing teachers. By the way, why is the chapter is letting her have these positions? After all these teachers are in the same Union that the rest of us are. If she was able to push out 9 assistant principals, a nurse, a psychologist and 50 teachers at least. When the tables are turned, where are these coordinators going to go?
ReplyDeleteThe Relentless Quest for Incompetence:
ReplyDelete(1) To change grades
(2) Target veteran teachers so Tweed will be happy
(3) Push out and harass assistant principals
(4) Intimidate teachers
(5)Stress out everybody and overwhelm them
(6) Make a teacher win a Robotic Competition and then harass and humiliate her
(7) Come up with fraudulent recovery credit programs so Tweed can be happy
(8) Replace good assistant principals with teachers who will do their jobs at a lower cost
(9) Harass teachers to pass students who do not deserve it so Tweed can be happy
(10) Retaliate anybody who can pose a danger in reporting incompetence or grade changing
(11) Go after veteran teachers even though they have good statistics and are doing a good job.
(12) Neutralize the Union, so the incompetence can continue.

Teachers who are bullied by administrators are the most likely to suffer stress-related consequences.
The survey also underscored that the personal consequences of bullying include absences from work, increased fear, loss of sleep, loss of self-confidence, anxiety, appetite loss, and depression. Severe panic attacks, and loss of appetite, self-confidence, and concentration are most prevalent reactions when bullied by an administrator.
Former teacher files lawsuit against Newport-Mesa School District
ReplyDeleteDebbra DeMarco alleges workplace harassment and age discrimination. Complaint shows she was accused of drinking alcohol during the school day and of making racial remarks, claims DeMarco denies.

A former Killybrooke Elementary School teacher is suing the school district for alleged workplace harassment and age discrimination, court records show.
Debbra DeMarco filed a lawsuit Sept. 4 in Orange County Superior Court against the Newport-Mesa School District and Killybrooke Principal Lorie Hoggard.
DeMarco, who was 43 years old at the time of the alleged harassment, claims the district forced her to quit because of her advancing age and because she was more expensive to keep on staff than a younger teacher.

She was paid $93,000 annually because of her 12-year tenure at the district and her advanced degree, said Joel W. Baruch, the attorney representing DeMarco.
"They can't legally discriminate against her because she's over the age of 40 and makes more money," he said.
The district declined to comment on the matter, according to a written statement by spokeswoman Laura Boss.
DeMarco, who has a doctorate degree in educational leadership from USC, began working at Killybrooke in August 2000 as a teacher in grades 3-5. She received tenure after working at Killybrooke for three months. She was a high performing and reliable employee, according to the complaint.
The alleged harassment began in 2011 when the district hired Hoggard as Killybrooke's principal. Soon after, DeMarco alleges that Hoggard began to harass, intimidate and discriminate against DeMarco, the complaint stated.
She accused DeMarco of drinking alcohol during the school day in October 2011 — an accusation DeMarco adamantly denied.
A month later, Hoggard asked her to submit her lesson plans for review on a regular basis and began coming into her class to observe her. From December 2011 through the end of January 2012, Hoggard would sit in DeMarco's class every day and observe, the complaint stated.
In January 2012, Killybrooke's school nurse, Marcia Marthaler, entered DeMarco's class in the middle of a lesson and smelled her breath. Marthaler allegedly reported to Hoggard that the teacher was under the influence of alcohol, according to the complaint.
That day, DeMarco received a letter from John Drake, director of certificated personnel, informing her that she was being put on paid administrative leave while the district conducted an investigation into allegations that she was drinking on the job. DeMarco was placed on leave for one day, according to the complaint.
For the last 2 years she has been rating teachers with the Danielson Model and it was not in effect, so all the observations conducted between 2011 and 2013 should be voided.
ReplyDeleteDear Blog Editors,
ReplyDeleteI am a teacher at W.C. Bryant High School, and I am asking you to please delete the Bryant Inside Scoop blog.
Every personal attack on a Bryant employee reflects badly on our entire school. The few among us that are choosing to behave unprofessionally do not represent the vast majority of us who are completely opposed to the attacks and want our faculty to unite and move forward.
I applaud you for following through with a very interesting experiment. Nobody will ever ask, “I wonder what would happen if the faculty & staff of Bryant High School could vent anonymously on an online blog …?”
Yes, you have the right to continue to keep the site up. Idealistic teachers with detailed action items have the right to try to inspire everyone with hopeful essays, and vindictive individuals with horrific writing skills have the right to continue adding to the vitriol. Opportunists have the right to cut & paste all of it onto more widely read blogs. The entire world has the right to read it. People like me who have not (yet) been personally attacked have the right to turn a blind eye to all of it. WordPress has the right to do whatever they want with it since they own the site.
Since this blog does not help the faculty and staff of Bryant High School to give students better educational opportunities, I ask that you please delete it. I hope that other educators will join me in publicly denouncing this site in the interests of our students.
Sincerely,
Nina Kulkarni
W.C. Bryant teacher (2000-present)
